Can you explain the difference between a cable car and a funicular?

Hi Jan & Liz
Is this the train going up the Penang Ki Lok Sa ? I notice this tain is on rail track and is pulled by cable. That's why it is FUNNY and it's CIRCULAR. LOL.

Not that one, this is the Penang Hill Cable Car. The difference between a funicular and a cable car is quite technical, as both systems use cables. Liz might be right, that it is technically a funicular, but everybody calls it the Cable Car. Any Penangite reader able to solve the problem?
