Tanjung Sepat, September 2010 |
The small town of Tanjung Sepat is located on the Straits of Malacca coast, about 20 km south of Morib. A friend of ours is a regular visitor and he had told us positive stories about the atmosphere of the place.
Time to explore for ourselves..:-)
During weekends the town attracts lots of visitors, so went on a weekday and decided to combine our visit with other attractions in the region.
We started with the Dong Zen temple in Jenjarom. Well known for its CNY celebration, it was now a peaceful, quiet place. Buddhism (Theravada style) keeps fascinating me.
Our next stop was Jugra hill. It was already past lunch time, so the famous Beggar's Chicken restaurant was deserted. The temple opposite the restaurant is interesting, because it is dedicated to a local deity (a Datok). No pork in this temple, as a sign of respect.
We went up to the lighthouse. A conspicuous sign a la Hollywood had been erected since our last visit, and also a shelter. The view is beautiful. We were lucky, two para-gliders were in the air, circling around on the thermal. Must be so nice when you can do that. They landed safely. We also saw how a crow was chasing away a Brahmini kite
From there to the coast. In Morib we had a look at the memorial sign for the landing of the British forces in 1945. No fighting as the Japanese army had capitulated just a few weeks earlier.
Passing Batu Laut we noticed a seafood restaurant that looked so attractive that we decided to have our dinner there. But first we went on to Tg Sepat where we found accommodation for RM 66 in one of the resorts.
Dinner in Asam Batu Laut was delicious. Crab, red snapper, lala, veggie and fish ball soup, for RM 87, . Later we had coffee in one of the many shops in Tg Sepat. Surprisingly, they were open until late.
The next morning we had a late breakfast in the famous Bah Kut Teh shop, where seafood bah kut teh is the specialty. Next we visited the jetty, several temples and the mushroom farm. There are more things to see, we will come back another time.
Now, after trying the famous pau, we continued to Bagan Lalang, where a huge resort is under construction. Copycatting the famous Dubai design. I think it will fail.
On the way back home we bought nice red dragon fruits.
Life in Malaysia is not bad...!
