Trip with Joe Yap (15-16)-3-2011
When my dear friend Joe Yap celebrated her birthday recently, I decided to give her a waterfall related present: a trip to the Kuala Kangsar region with a few waterfalls on the menu. We started with Lata Perahu, north of Kuala Kangsar, near Lake Cenderoh. Next we had lunch in the famous Ikan Bakar restaurant at Tasik Raban. The tilapia was grilled to perfection, and the tempoyak heavenly. The Kekabu falls are not far from this restaurant. Although it was a weekday, there were quite many visitors. Well maintained recreational park with hardly any rubbish. After these two waterfalls we went to the Suka Suka resort where we received a friendly welcome from Aziz and Asiah. The sunset was very romantic and the food prepared by Asiah was delicious, as usual. The next morning we went with the family to Kg Rambai Tujoh, the home village of Asiah. There Rashid, the guide, was waiting for us, to bring us to two waterfalls in the Menora river.Although the kampong and the river are very near the N-S highway, it takes a long way to reach the place. It was an interesting river trek. The current was quite strong as it had rained the day before, so the going was slow. After about 1.5 hour we reached the first fall, Cabang Dua. The river splits here, we followed the left branch and reached the Berembun fall about 15 minutes later. Unspoiled, only local people know this place. Big pool, beautiful fall. During our trek we sometimes could hear the noise of the traffic on the highway. And at one spot we saw a large collection of empty plastic bottles. They came from the highway, our guide said, washed down by the rain! He also told us that there are more falls in the region, will be nice to explore another time. Satisfied we went back to KL. Happy Birthday, Joe!
