A chaconne is a musical dance form in triple metre, popular during the Baroque and consisting of a theme with variations. Just to name a few composers,\u00a0Telemann<\/a>, Pachelbel<\/a>, Couperin<\/a>, Vivaldi<\/a>\u00a0have written chaconnes\u00a0(the links refer\u00a0to YouTube).<\/p>\n

But when music lovers talk about\u00a0\u00a0The Chaconne<\/span>. \u00a0they mean the last movement\u00a0of Bach’s Partita No. 2 in D minor for solo violin.<\/p>\n

Yehudi Menuhin called it “the greatest structure for solo violin that exists”<\/p>\n

And Joshua Bell has said the Chaconne is “not just one of the greatest pieces of music ever written, but one of the greatest achievements of any man in history”<\/p>\n

Over the years I have heard Bach’s chaconne numerous times and still it affects\u00a0me deeply.\u00a0There has been a time that I thought it would\u00a0be perfect music\u00a0for my funeral, but later I decided that it might\u00a0take too long..\u00a0:-).<\/p>\n
