When I decided to come back to\u00a0 the Netherlands in October, I knew the weather could\u00a0be unpredictable, hesitating between autumn and winter. In old\u00a0times October\u00a0was called the\u00a0aarselmaand\u00a0<\/a> \u00a0\u00a0<\/span>(hesitation month)<\/p>\n

So it was an unexpected, but very pleasant surprise that\u00a0my first weekend was warm and sunny, even\u00a0breaking records<\/a>!<\/p>\n

Saturday 14 October<\/span><\/p>\n

With my brother Ruud I visited the Spaardammerbuurt, famous for its Amsterdamse School architecture. First we had coffee and cake in the Buurtboerderij Ons Genoegen<\/a>. This “farm within the city” dates back to 1880, was almost demolished around 2001, but just in time saved by a group of concerned citizens. More about this interesting story can be read here<\/a> (in Dutch).\u00a0It is amazing that such a rural enclave exists, sandwiched between two railway lines.<\/p>\n

We walked from the Buurtboerderij to Het Schip following this route. Not the shortest one, but worthwhile, you don’t realise that you are surrounded by development<\/p>\n
