Some comments have already been given on YouTube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I came across these YouTube videos, after I read a few months ago in the New Straits: Times: Taiping makes it to 2018 Top 100 Sustainable Destinations<\/a> . Probably I was not the only one who was surprised. Taiping a sustainable destination, even belonging to the top 100 in the world?<\/p>\n\n\n\n I searched for more information and found this list:<\/p>\n\n\n\n And here is a world map with (in green) the 2018 top 100 selection and (in purple) the 2019 top 100 selection. It looks like each year there is a new top 100!<\/p>\n\n\n\n This map and the list come from the Sustainable Destinations Top 100<\/a> website. When you click on this site the green circle for Taiping, you get a webpage about Taiping<\/a> with this text:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Perak\u2019s second-largest town is defined by water and greenery. Locals laud it as the \u2018City of Peace\u2019 for trailblazing Malaysia\u2019s first museum, first railway and first newspapers in English, Malay and Tamil. But it\u2019s Taiping\u2019s \u2018Rain City\u2019 title that has stuck. Taiping has the biggest volume of rainfall in Peninsular Malaysia: all the better for its verdant lake gardens (and the pastime of \u2018rain betting\u2019, where locals take a punt on what time downpours will start and stop).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Taiping is a tourism destination with elements of nature such as mountains, waterfall and wildlife. Taiping always gets the most frequent rainfall catchment that is near 320 days per year.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Taiping\u2019s nature welcomes wildlife and lush plants. The beauty of the nature is able to give a feels of relaxation to the tourists that come to Taiping. Tourists can enjoy the beauty of Lotus Flower in the lake and other plants around the garden.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The page contains four photos (Raintree Walk, Perak Museum, Lake Gardens and the former First Galleria, now the Municipal Gallery) and a video, the first episode of Discover Taiping. That’s how I got to know about the Astro Awani documentary \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n Not only did Taiping make it to the 2018 Top 100 Sustainable Destinations, here is an article from the STAR, 7 March 2019: Taiping is No 3 most sustainable city in the world<\/a> :<\/p>\n\n\n\n Taiping was placed third, behind Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, and Vancouver, Canada in the “Best of Cities” category, which awards cities that show leadership in urban sustainability and in avoiding disruptive over-tourism.<\/em> The awards were presented at the ITB Berlin<\/a>, the world’s largest tourism trade fair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Here is part of the (long) awards list.
