Sg Dua Falls (Lata Khong)
My first visit to the Sg Dua waterfall was on 20 March 2005 with Khong. It was an accidental discovery, we had information about a very remote waterfall in the Karak region and Khong wanted to see how far his car could go in. Not that far, we stopped after ~ 5km at a small waterfall and drove back. Khong talked with some locals and they told us that there was a nice waterfall nearby!
We came back a few weeks later, 6 April, this time with George. As we had already visited two more waterfalls that day (Lembik and Gapoi), it was late afternoon, so we stayed only a few minutes to take some photos.
When I told my friend Edward about our surprise discovery, he got interested. Maybe a suitable location for a camping trip? He went with friends on 9 April and asked me to join.
It was a memorable camping trip. Edward and his friends prepared tea and later dinner, with roast chicken
But the relaxed atmosphere was disturbed by a group of (rough) 4WD's who had tried to reach the remote waterfall, failed and now had decided to camp at our peaceful campsite.
It may have been during this camping trip that Edward and I decided to name this Sg Dua fall after our 'sifu' Khong. A few years later I came back with Paul and Karl on 26 January 2009. It was CNY and we had visited the Kijang waterfall first, so it was already late when we arrived at what was now Lata Khong. We explored if there were upper tiers and found a few.
In the same year, 2 July 2009, I came back with Khong , George and Zen. Development was taking place, access was not that easy. But the waterfall was still beautiful.
Many years later, 17 January 2016, I visited Lata Khong again, this time with Aric, Edwin, Janine and Jerry. We hiked a bit further on the red trail and found that a lot of destruction/development was taking place :-(. But the waterfall is still there, actually getting more popular.
Edwin went there recently, the official name is now Lata Bunta, entrance/parking fee RM 5, well maintained by the Orang Asli. Easier access now. Popular, especially during weekends On 16 October 2024 Aric and I wanted to visit the fall, but it was closed
