Sg Dipang falls
On 20 September 2009 I visited the Dipang river with Paul and Karl after Siang Hui had told me about nice waterfalls in that river. We followed a clear trail, passed small waterfalls and cascades and after about one hour we reached the first waterfall, Lata Dipang.
At this waterfall we met Jinnah, a friendly Semai, who was collecting butterflies. He took us to the next waterfall, Lata Keluang, a real beauty, very powerful after heavy rain.
A few months later, 14 January 2010, I came back, this time with Joe Yap, Edwin and Caleb. Joe wanted to do a recce for het Waterfall Survivors group. We visited the same two waterfalls, again with Jinnah as our guide.
Jinnah told us that there were more waterfalls upstream. On 24 January I came back, this time with Rani and Dennis. Jinnah brought us to Lata Kilat, trekking not always easy, but a nice two-tier waterfall.
There were two more waterfalls, said Jinnah, but they were far upstream and it would be better to camp overnight near Pos Dipang. So that is what Rani and I did. On 15 February we met Jinnah, who had brought his friend Bariek, because he expected that a lot of chopping would be needed.
It took us more than 3 hours, climbing 400 meter, to reach the two falls. One of them, Lata Cheroh, we could only view from the top, but the other one, Lata Merjur was more than worth the hike. Tall and powerful.
Four year later, I visited the Sg Dipang again, this time with a group of friends. We camped at the same location and had again Jinnah as our guide. After heavy afternoon rain, we had a nice evening. The next morning we hiked to the two waterfalls, following a new logging road. This time we hiked to the bottom of Lata Cheroh, and from there scrambled up to the top. From there we continued to Lata Merjur.
