Family visit, May 2011
From 23-5 until 6-6 we had visitors from the Netherlands, my sister Lous and her husband Arend. Lous had been here before, for Arend it was his first visit.

We started with a visit of the Batu caves, followed by the Kanching waterfalls. The next day we spent in KL, first the KL tower, then KLCC, where we had lunch. In the afternoon we visited the old part of town, around Merdeka Square.
Finally we had dinner in the Lookout Point. Food so so, but a spectacular view of downtown KL.

During her first visit we I had visited the East Coast with Lous, and she was eager to go there again. We decided that they would go there on their own, using one of our cars, and that we would meet them a few days later in Penang.

That worked out well, Aric and I took a flight to Penang and met them in a hotel we had booked online. Two busy days followed. The Kek Lok Si Temple, Penang Hill, the jetties, several kongsi's. And of course food, lots of food...:-)
But a pity that we were just too early for durians.

After a few days Aric flew home and I joined Lous and Arend on the way back. As it was school holidays, we were expecting full hotels, so it was a pleasant surprise that both at Suka Suka (near Lenggong) and the Lutheran Mission Bungalow in the Cameron Highlands, we were the only guests!

Both locations are very relaxing, real gardens of Eden.
From the Cameron Highlands we drove back home, took a day rest to recover, and then went to Melaka, where we stayed overnight in the Baba House, I lost count how many times I have been there...:-)
Even on a Sunday there is now a pasar malam in Jonker street!

The last day we met my Kiara friends at IKEA and on our way to the airport we said goodbye to George and Mary, who had met Lous also during her first trip in 2007.

It was a very pleasant visit, the weather was good, although quite hot.
We were very active and both they and we will need some days to recover...:-)

Yes, near Brinchang. Many of the butterflies were damaged, because the kids tried to catch them...:-(. I use Photoshop to make the 'combination' pictures.
And thanks for the compliment, that I am better than a local guide...:-)

Kwai Loh wrote on Jun 10, 2011:
Can you explain the difference between a cable car and a funicular?

Hi Jan & Liz
Is this the train going up the Penang Ki Lok Sa ? I notice this tain is on rail track and is pulled by cable. That's why it is FUNNY and it's CIRCULAR. LOL.

wrote on Aug 27, 2011:
Not that one, this is the Penang Hill Cable Car. The difference between a funicular and a cable car is quite technical, as both systems use cables. Liz might be right, that it is technically a funicular, but everybody calls it the Cable Car. Any Penangite reader able to solve the problem?
